Mickey Mouse celebrates his 90th birthday and is preparing to do it in style. The date is November 18th: on that day, back in 1928, he made his first appearance in the cartoon titled “Steamboat Willie”. Ever since, the most famous “mouse” in history, now a world icon, has never ceased to be the centre of attention.
Many are the initiatives organized by Disney to celebrate this event, starting with the “Christmas” competition featuring, as first prize, a trip to New York for 4, which includes a visit to the interactive exhibition titled “Mickey: The True Original Exhibition” and for the other winners, 90 Mickey Mouse-themed prizes. The competition “Move it for Mickey” offers a prize for dancers who will appear in an exclusive video to be produced as a tribute to the 90th anniversary: just download the app on your smartphone, click on “dance now”, choose a scenario and start to dance!

The world of fashion, design and hi-tech has also chosen to celebrate the birthday of birthdays with “limited editions”
Not one to let an opportunity go by, fashion blogger Chiara Ferragni designed a capsule collection of shoes inspired by Minnie Mouse, for sale on ShopDisney.
Available starting November 1st, the sand-coloured Desert Boot by Clarks with “Mickey Mouse” red stitching and the silhouette fire-branded onto the heel. OVS relied on the brands Arthur Arbesser, Au Jour le Jour, Les Petits Joueurs and Vivetta to produce a rich collection of pieces: sweatshirts, T-shirts, jackets, skirts and pants in the “Mickey” style, brightly coloured and trendy. And Levi has come out with a Trucker Jacket and 501 jeans. O-bag also produced a Disney collection of “modular” bags, as well as a red capsule sold at La Rinascente.
Minnie is the protagonist of the Swarovski special collection of bracelets, necklaces and earrings, as well as a key chain and phone cover. Hip Hop dedicates a collection of watches to Mickey Mouse, available in red or black. For travelers, there is a set of Samsonite luggage printed all over with Mickey Mouse and available in various formats, and a contest that will award an entire set of luggage to the winner.
For hi-tech fans, there are Minnie and Mickey Mouse icons on the AppleWatch, and the wireless headset “Beats Solo 3 Mickey Mouse”, also from Apple.
And Mickey Mouse also becomes a theme for the home. Smeg decorates its iconic FAB28 refrigerator with a black and white illustration of Mickey Mouse, a limited edition that coincides with the company’s 70th anniversary. Finally Bosa Ceramiche has produced a special piece of finely crafted ceramic. And French manufacturer Le Creuset has launched a line of pots and pans for the occasion.
